If the projector is used regularly, the failure oft the lamp is usually just a matter of time. This defect is one of the more frequent, as well as one of the most expensive ones. The question is, wheter the repair is worthwile or whether you should immediately get a new device. The service life of a traditional projector lamp is between 1,000 and 3,000 hours in total. LED lamps can span all the way up to 20,000 hours in operation. If you now look at the prices of 50-300€ it becomes quite clear: a repair is worthwhile in the majority of times. A new aquisition often comes with a high price of 600-1000€ which can be reduced significantly by just repairing the old device.
Despite the high price it's always worthwhile to fall back on an original spare part. The reasons for this are similar to the ones for every other spare part:
As with all technical replica purchases, "buy cheap, buy twice." There's also a distiction between projector lamps which include a casing and lamps which don't.
